Our kids fishing trips were started after a scenic float trip on which an eight year old sat on the bow of my raft and pretended to fish for four hours. When I got home that day I contacted Dave Hill of Blue Heron Outfitters and asked how I could make sure a kid like that caught some fish on a scenic tour.
The answer was "Get a guides license and take a fishing rod". Although parents are invited to fish as well, the focus is on the kids. The primary goal is to have fun with an emphasis on learning a little about fishing in the river.
We stress the importance of catch and release, take a look at the aquatic insects and talk about river etiquette and how it applies to other fisherman. Always our number one goal is a happy kid.
